Powering the AI Future: Our Cardiff Hyperscale Facility

The UK is positioning itself to become a global leader in artificial intelligence, with its market estimated to grow to over £21 billion by 2030. Delivering on these ambitions requires advanced infrastructure that can support rapid growth—which is why Latos is working to redefine the landscape of data storage and computing in the UK and beyond.
A key milestone on this journey is our new Cardiff hyperscale facility, a project which is poised to kick-start the region’s technology ecosystem while creating hundreds of jobs.
Meeting the demands of a data-driven world
AI applications, from autonomous vehicles to predictive healthcare, rely on real-time, data-intensive operations. These demands are reshaping the infrastructure needed to power the next wave of technological advancements. Traditional data centre design is not equipped to meet the requirements of ultra-low latency and mass data processing that AI-driven industries demand.
That’s where the Latos Cardiff hyperscale facility comes in. This state-of-the-art Tier III data centre is designed to meet the needs of the most demanding global technology companies. Once operational, it will provide 90MVA of power across 50,400 square metres of floor space—supporting a wide variety of sophisticated use cases for both domestic technology companies and those with a globe-spanning presence.

100% renewable energy
In keeping with our commitment to sustainability, we’re aiming for this facility to be powered entirely by renewable energy sourced from the National Grid. This will be backed by a secondary feed from the Tremorfa Energy Park. This neighbouring site is one of the world’s largest battery energy storage facilities, and will ensure our facility can always leverage a consistent and eco-conscious power supply.
Scalable, modular design
We’re designing the Cardiff facility with flexibility in mind, allowing us to supply custom-built solutions that meet exact specifications and leverage the latest available technologies and design processes. This bespoke approach, combined with rapid deployment and efficient scaling, makes the facility a future-ready solution capable of meeting the advanced requirements of the world’s leading technology companies.
A catalyst for job creation
Beyond technological milestones, our Cardiff hyperscale facility is set to deliver substantial economic benefits to the region. Development work alone will create 1,000 local construction jobs, and once operational, the centre will provide 200 permanent positions. Additionally, we expect the project to generate more than 250 roles in the local supply chain, spanning industries such as logistics, maintenance, and technical support.
Driving innovation and economic growth
As AI adoption continues to accelerate, the need for cutting-edge infrastructure like our Cardiff facility will only grow. We’re excited to be building sustainable, scalable, and secure facilities like this one to ensure the infrastructure is ready and waiting for incredible new AI applications!
